How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe That You'll Love

If you’re new to the concept, you may be wondering what exactly is a capsule wardrobe.

A capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of essential clothing items that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits. It typically consists of versatile pieces that are timeless, high-quality, and well-suited to the wearer's personal style. The concept of a capsule wardrobe promotes simplicity, organization, and mindful consumption. By embracing a capsule wardrobe, individuals can experience several benefits, such as reducing decision fatigue, saving time and money, minimizing clutter, and cultivating a more sustainable approach to fashion. In this blog post, I will explore the concept of a capsule wardrobe in more detail and delve into the numerous advantages it offers.

Step 1: Assess and Declutter

- Begin by taking stock of your current wardrobe.
- Assess each item's fit, condition, and how frequently you wear it.
- Declutter by removing clothes that no longer fit, are damaged, or haven't been worn in a long time.
- Consider donating or selling the items you no longer need.

Step 2: Define Your Style and Identify Key Pieces

- Reflect on your personal style preferences, lifestyle, and the occasions you typically dress for.
- Determine the color palette that resonates with you and complements your complexion.
- Identify key pieces that form the foundation of your capsule wardrobe, such as versatile tops, bottoms, and outerwear.
- Aim for pieces that can be mixed and matched easily to create various outfit combinations.

Step 3: Curate and Build Your Capsule Wardrobe

- Begin selecting new items that align with your style and complement your existing wardrobe.
- Prioritize quality over quantity when investing in new pieces.
- Stick to the color palette and versatility criteria you established earlier.
- Consider factors like fabric, comfort, and durability.
- Aim to have a balanced wardrobe with a mix of basics, statement pieces, and accessories.
- Set a budget and be mindful of your spending.

5 Tips for Healthy Hair During the Quarantine

Hey there, I just wanted to stop in and provide some tips to keep your hair healthy while we are in lockdown + some awesome products that I have been using to help grow my hair during this time.

  1. Continue to Shampoo and Condition regularly, giving your hair the ultimate moisturizer-----> water
  2. Make sure to detangle properly. Tangled hair tends to want to stay tangled and will turn into locs. Combing locs out leads to breakage.
  3. Deep condition with a conditioner containing protein.
  4. Let the Air dry a little before blow drying. Never, ever blow dry dripping wet hair.
  5. Choose a style that will keep you from touching it and protect your ends from friction.
The protective style I have chose is a very simple center part low ponytail, I wash my hair bi-weekly with Creme of Nature's Aloe and Black Castor Oil Collection

Creme of Nature newest launch, Aloe and Black Castor Oil collection. Is Infused with nature’s ingredients, Aloe Vera Juice, Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Vitamins, the collection improves elasticity, prevents breakage and restores moisture, ultimately, strengthening the hair and scalp. The complete collection which includes a shampoo, conditioner, protein treatment, hair mask and a root recharge serum. Priced under $10, the collection is currently sold at mass-market retailers such as Sallybeauty.com

Styling the staple skirt this season

Even though the colder weather is creeping in, skirts are still a big part of our wardrobe. Even in the winter they match well with a pair of woolen tights. And, there’s so many styles, from thigh-split midis to pleated minis. This is great for freshening up our wardrobes, but how are we meant to know how to perfectly style each type?

Winter boho vibes
Bring out your inner boho with a gypsy style skirt. And, how do you perfectly flaunt it in 2019?  It’s all about 60s and 70s when it comes to the boho trend. Go for psychedelic colors like bright oranges, greens, yellows and pinks and pair with retro fabrics like velvet and chiffon. Tassels are obviously a great addition to a top for this outfit and bell sleeves look amazing with gypsy skirts, promising that you’ll embody the Sixties/Seventies vibe perfectly. Finalize the ideal gypsy skirt outfit with chunky bangles, mood rings, hoop earrings, and sandals!

Drop the hem
This season, a dip-hem dress is a wardrobe must-have. Cut short at the front with a longer hemline at the back, the asymmetric skirt is perfect for showing some leg without revealing too much. Avoid going for asymmetric tops with this skirt style — it’s too much — instead create a cool contrast by pulling on a simple cami or square-neck, going out top. Unsure on which accessories would match well? Wear hoop earrings and a bangle then choose whether you want to rock flats or heels, depending on the tone of the occasion.

The chic pleated midi

A pleated midi is chic and classy. This style is also known as an accordion skirt and it should fit well. You want it to sit comfily at your waist, but also hang in a way that the pleats don’t look stretched. These skirts look great if you want to downplay bigger thighs and hips, as the pleats will create an illusion that slims down the lower half of your body. If you want to dress your midi down this can be done too. For a chic look, go for a v-neck polka dot top with cap sleeves or for something more casual, try a graphic tee and cropped jacket.

Keeping it cool in denim
A denim skirt is a must-have for every season. You can get these in a range of hem lengths and denim washes — so go with what you feel comfortable in. It’s all about being chic with denim. Think casual, crew-neck tees, cool graphics, fun colors and quirky prints. Pair with a pair of white sneakers, wear your hair in a messy bun and keep jewelry to a minimum. If the event suits, wear a cap or floppy hat — ideal for hanging out.

Work-to-play pencil skirt
You can always dress it up in a pencil skirt. Flattering and easy to style, choose this in a neutral shade — like beige, black or grey — and wear with a three-quarter sleeve dress shirt. Don’t want to look so formal? Trumpet-sleeve tops create an eye-catching contrast with the fitted style of a pencil skirt, while the high-waist feature lets you combine this style with cropped tops without feeling too exposed. Accessorize depending on the level of formality: a few simple pieces for a professional event, and bigger pieces with colored stones for more informal occasions. Ankle-strap heels always look amazing with this skirt style.

How to wear the skort
Also known as a scooter skirt, a skort is a combination of shorts and a skirt. Usually sitting at your mid-thigh with an asymmetric appearance, the skort is no longer a skirt restricted to casual settings, which means you can flaunt it the next time you head out for dancing and partying with your girlfriends. This style of skirt matches well with other garments. Go for a design with a frill and pair with a long-sleeve, chiffon shirt or go for a clean-cut style that you can wear with a sweetheart neckline tee. If you want to really rock this fashion trend, pull on a plain, neutral-shade v-neck top to draw people’s eye-line to your skort. Everything from wedges and pumps to sneakers and stilettos look incredible with a skort — so don’t hold back.

Dressing an A-line skirt
What is the A-line skirt exactly? It’s a style that flares out just slightly from the waistband for a gorgeous drop that suits all body types — especially pear-shape ladies. A-line skirts wonderfully highlight the tiniest part of your waist, so we recommend flaunting this outline with an off-the-shoulder bodysuit or simple crop top. Can’t decide which colors look best? Keep it classic and elegant. Think forest green, royal blue or deep purple. Then, match with block heels, a clutch and just a few pieces of jewelry.

Top Trends for Men’s Street Style in 2019

The Fall 2019 Menswear shows are underway in London and utility gear, luxurious outerwear, and strange pants are just a few of Vogue street style predictions; below, here are a few of the trends you’re bound to see in NYC, London and Beyond.

In the world of womenswear, animal prints don’t exactly qualify as breaking news. But for men, a tiger-striped coat or leopard button-down still feels like a risk.

Statement outerwear has been trending in women’s collections for years, from faux fur chubbies to plaid trenchcoats, but it wasn’t until last year that men were trying it out.

A leather jacket is practically the inverse of a trend: It’s an item you’re meant to wear for years and years, and it actually gets better with age.

For his latest Balenciaga men’s collection, Demna Gvasalia showed his idea of “tailoring for today’s generation”: easy, oversize shirt-jacket hybrids with matching trousers.

How to Layer Up for Fall/Winter

Fall/Winter is my absolute favorite time of the year. In my opinion it shows who really has style. However, it can be a tricky to know which pieces complement what. The ultimate goal is to be warm, while still looking polished and never bulky. Since it's finally cooling off in Atlanta I wanted to share how you can create easy and chic outfits by layering.

INSPIRATION: 3.1 PHILLIP LIM

Add an extra layer of warmth between a button-front shirt and a jacket with a funnel-neck knit. Choose a sleeveless top to avoid bulking up. Shop the look below: Button-front: Joe Fresh, $59;  Knit: Exclusive for Intermix, $255; intermixonline.com Jacket: Mango, $70; mango.com Pants: Cos, $115; cosstores.com
Despite the comfort and warmth they offer, puffers still get a bad rap for their shapeless, marshmallow-like silhouette. This season, give them a second chance. Pick a dark quilted version for a slimming effect, and elevate it with a sweater, a silk scarf, and tailored trousers. Shop the look below: Sweater: Sass amp Bide, $350; sassandbide.com Scarf: Tory Burch, $195; toryburch.com Jacket: Zara, $119; zara.com Pants: DKNY, $255; net-a-porter.com

INSPIRATION: VALENTINO

Who knew check could be so refined? Unite the matching pieces with an Oxford and pleated culottes.
Shop the look below: Button-down: Gap, $50; gap.com Sweater: Rag and Bone, $325; rag-bone.com Coat: Coat, $595; rag-bone.com Culottes: Asos, $68; asos.com
I hope these help you with your fall/winter layering.
