Illesteva X Michael Jackson

New York based eyewear label illesteva will launch a limited-edition sunglass style in collaboration with the Michael Jackson Estate for Summer 2017. Inspired by the iconic sunglasses worn by Michael Jackson during his 1984 Victory Tour, the collaboration celebrates the 35th anniversary of world’s best-selling album, Thriller.

The original aviator style frame reimagined by illesteva, was created using a single sheet lens. The gold mirrored face is accented with lightweight gold temples and engraved with Jackson’s signature. The limited release offers 200 numbered frames commemorating the King of Pop.

"Michael Jackson was and is an Icon. It's an honor to have been approached by his team and to work with his estate. We are excited for the launch" says Daniel Silberman, CEO of illesteva.

Andy Wolf 2016 collections

ANDY WOLF EYEWEAR launches its first own store concept in the form of a glasses paternoster. The unique display with recognition value focuses on the core statement of the Hartenberg-based glasses company - "Handmade in Austria".

Everywhere has simple glasses shelves, so ANDY WOLF EYEWEAR's aim was to develop a unique shopping experience. The shop display with recognition value not only stands out visually from the competition, it also arouses the customer's interest and invites them to "play".

Although the glasses are all visible, most of them are out of reach. Desire is thus awakened in the salesroom and motivates viewers to turn the crank.

The design is based on ANDY WOLF EYEWEAR's philosophy and follows the handmade credo. The main materials used are scrap wood and metal - raw and rusty, with a natural look and feel. All mechanical drive elements are installed so they are visible and were welded and assembled by hand. The real, solid scrap wood gives the lift a high-quality haptic surface.

This combination creates a unique moving stage for the glasses. The paternoster has an overall height of 1450 mm and can accommodate 24 unfolded glasses, with compact dimensions of W x H x D - 500 x 1450 x 400 mm.

It can be free-standing or mounted on the base draw unit or directly on the wall. Lighting and a large folding mirror are optional.

"With our glasses paternoster, we have developed our first own shop system. It took a long time for us to find something suitable that met our high standards. In addition, it was particularly important for us that it was also manufactured in Austria," says Katharina Plattner, designer and director at ANDY WOLF EYEWEAR.

The glasses paternoster launched and presented to customers at SILMO 2015 in Paris. The new design line - ANDY WOLF, LOVE - was photographed in a paternoster especially for this event.

Ralph Vaessen Eyewear

Ralph Vaessen (Dutch designer, creative director and entrepreneur) started to design sunglasses and eyewear early 2006 after a 15 year career at the Dutch Government. He was looking for eyewear for himself, but he couldn’t find what he was looking for. Ralph decided to make a drawing of the shape he wanted and asked a small atelier to make it for him. Pleased with the outcome, Ralph saw an opportunity. “Why design only one personal pair of glasses? Why not design a collection?” A brand was born.

That Ralph Vaessen started a creative career at a later age did not come as a complete surprise. Fashion, design, art, architecture and music had been his passion since he was a child. As a youngster he was already wearing designer clothes by Pierre Cardin and in 1979, at an age of thirteen, he started to create his own style of clothing influenced by the Ska Punk music scene and later by the New Romantics, a fashion/music sub movement of the New Wave music scene at the early ‘80s. His designs are still influenced by the independent British music scene.

“Ralph Vaessen is one the most promising designers of the future” - Vogue

Ralph Vaessen's creations are worn by industry luminaries such as Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Louboutin, David Lynch, John Malkovich, Kate Moss, Pharrell (Williams), Rihanna, Sir Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, The XX among many others.

The collection is available from leading style, optical and concept stores around the world, including Barneys New York, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, Colette, L’Eclaireur, Excelsior Milano and TSUM amongst many others.

Introducing Oscar & Frank Eyewear

One of the world’s newest and most intriguing eyewear brands, Oscar & Frank, has hit the European market with its debut range. The brand which is owned and run by a couple of entrepreneurial celebrity Dachshund’s (yes, Sausage dogs) originated in Australia in 2014.

The brand and the (inaugural) ‘Wurst’ range is built on the logic that the market always wants something different. As such, under the brand positioning and philosophy of ‘Seen Differently’ Oscar & Frank will only ever develop quality and styles that speak to the individuality of their market. Celebrating difference is easy for two dogs who compete in a business and fashion world normally reserved for humans.
“In the world of fashion, we’re already different. When you have a unique street level perspective like us, you start to sniff out what people want and like in ways that the other companies that are run by actual humans, just can’t compete with. Our first range is the Wurst range...what other company can say that?”

The dogs spent six months developing their bold and confident Wurst range which includes names such as Weiss wurst, Bier wurst and of course Brat wurst using high quality classic black, coloured and speckled acetates.

Affordability combined with superior quality is the key quality, with all styles retailing at 100 pounds, 140 euros or 150 US dollars. All frames are hand-crafted of high quality acetate and superior components.

Kate Hudson x Chrome Hearts Sunglasses

Kate Hudson and her pal Laurie Lynn Stark, co-owner of rocker-style apparel and accessories line Chrome Hearts, best ideas emerge on vacation. The pair’s jewelry collaboration, CH + KH, came to fruition while the duo were relaxing on the beach in the Bahamas a few years back. The line has since expanded to eyewear.

The sunglasses are currently available in two styles, playfully dubbed “Eye So Shady” and “Eye So Sassy,” but will ultimately come in 11 different variations, all for $850 a piece.

“I am always wearing sunglasses,” Hudson laughed  “So the glasses are just an extension of what we’re doing. These turned out really well and we’re so excited about them. I just wanted it to be classic and strong with a little bit of fire behind it.”

Dita Von Teese releases intimidating eyewear collection

Dita Von Teese has shared more details about her upcoming eyewear range with DITA Inc.

The burlesque beauty is set to launch a range of eyewear with DITA Inc., which will include ten unique spectacles. Describing a pair of shades called Femme Totale, Dita shared her inspiration behind the design.

"I love distinctive, powerful - dare I admit - ‘intimidating’ sunglasses. These frames will let them know that you’re a feminine force to be reckoned with!" she mused to WWD. "I’ll be wearing these poolside with a black maillot de bain, sky-high heels and maybe some diamonds... Sunglasses are the quick way to achieve glamour. Day-to-day, I usually wear little more than a swipe of red lipstick and a pair of shades.”
Another pair called Huntress also has a strong meaning for Dita. Again, she shared the prime opportunity to wear them.
These new-style cat-eye shades were imagined for a woman who knows what she wants. I imagined wearing these sitting outdoors at a Parisian cafe and quietly surveying the scene for possible love interests," she smiled.
There is also Paramour - a more sophisticated option.
“These make me think of sexy shades that a glamorous French woman might wear to meet her lover for a secret afternoon rendezvous,” Dita added.
Dita Von Teese Eyewear will first debut in selected department stores in Italy, Spain and France, with prices ranging from $235 to $285. The star has had the help of her close friend John Juniper, who co-founded DITA Inc. and named it after her.
