Reebok’s Pump Omni Zone II is back

On February 18th, Reebok has confirmed the official rerelease of its Pump Omni Zone II basketball sneaker notably adorned in ’91 by rookie high-flyer Dee Brown as he soared to a dunk contest title with his iconic “No Look” dunk, effectively catapulting “Pump” into the mainstream. Pump Omni Zone II is available from Foot Locker, Champs Sports and Reebok.com among other select local retailers beginning March 5.

On February 9, 1991, rookie point guard Dee Brown stepped onto the hardwood in front of a buzzing crowd. Approaching half court and sizing up the rim with a ball in hand and the attention of fans all over the world, what he did next would galvanize an industry-wide innovation race that forever changed the trajectory of sneaker history.

“I always planned on pumping them up before my first dunk,” commented the 12-year basketball veteran. “Not only did the “Pump” fit the shoes to my feet, but it was such a cool idea that I wanted to see how the crowd would react when I brought it to life.”

Brown set the ball on the playing surface, reached down with both hands and primed the “Pumps” on his Pump Omni Zone II sneakers, turning his head up to the crowd with a grin as he locked in his custom fit and prepared for takeoff. In that moment, as fans expressed shock and awe throughout the venue and around television sets across the globe, the unprecedented “Pump” technology became a cultural phenomenon. Brown would repeat the act prior to each of his seven dunk tries that night, including his final attempt, a signature “No Look” dunk in which he blindly jammed the ball through the basket with one arm covering his eyes. The dunk solidified Brown as only the second rookie in history (at the time) to win the contest.

Reebok’s “Pump” system was introduced on “The Pump” basketball shoe in the late ‘80s by the “Reebok Advanced Concepts” (RAC) team. Marking the brand’s true foray into basketball, “Pump” technology was the first of its kind, integrating within the shoe an inflatable chamber that enabled wearers to create their own custom fit. With the help of Dee Brown on that historic night in 1991, “Pump” would propel Reebok to the forefront of an industry-wide technology race as it gained international allure and quickly became the go-to for pro athletes the world over.

30 years later, Reebok is bringing back Pump Omni Zone II for the first time in its true high-cut design worn by Dee Brown. The silhouette is headlined by its highly-recognizable orange dimpled “Pump” button and custom-fit air bladder extending downward from a futuristic rubberized tongue. Seated atop its retro multicolor outsole is the classic black/white/orange layered upper built from the ‘90s blacktop with the game’s physicality in mind. TPU overlays advance the wearer’s quickness, while adding durability and style to the gritty design.

In honor of its enduring nostalgia and functional capabilities, in FW21, Reebok will look to reimagine “Pump” for the next generation.

Reebok’s Pump Omni Zone II (G57539, $140) is available from Foot Locker, Champs Sports and Reebok.com among other select local retailers beginning March 5.

Steve Madden x Winnie Harlow

Steve Madden announced his collaboration with model Winnie Harlow. The two have teamed up to create a fall ’19 collection, which is officially available today.

“She’s such a star,” Madden told FN. “She’s so beautiful. And all the young people love how her inner beauty just shows up. She doesn’t look like everyone else. I don’t have a problem taking second billing.” He added, “Everything has something to do with her past — even the naming of the shoes, it had meaning to her.”

For Harlow, who has starred in many campaigns for brands such as Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel, Mac, Saks Fifth Avenue and more, it comes as a surprise that this collaboration marks her first foray in design.

She said, “It was difficult at times because this is new to me. You need to have vision for things like this. It was difficult to look at a design and know that there was something that I wanted to change but not know exactly what that was. It was fun because Steve has the background in all that I wasn’t knowledgeable in. Everything that I wanted, we achieved. It was smooth for my first collaboration ever.”

The Winnie Harlow x Steve Madden capsule collection consists of on-trend silhouettes and styles that truly represent Harlow, including slouched, oversize over-the-knee boots, Western and military-inspired booties, pumps, strappy stiletto sandals, as well as lug sole and high-top sneakers.

One particular look, the Lisalove croc bootie, was named after Harlow’s mother, Lisa. This standout style was inspired by a Steve Madden boot Harlow wore growing up.

I wanted to be happy to wear these shoes,” she said. “There are a lot of shoes I have to wear for events or whatever the case is that don’t really speak to me. If I was going to have my name on this collection, I wanted each pair to speak to me. Everything I created really says Winnie Harlow.”

Retailing for $89.95 to $159.95, the capsule’s accessibility was of major importance to Harlow, too.

She said, “Being able to have a collection that represents me and is something I’d really wear and having it be accessible to my fans [was key]. I want them to feel included in my life.” So far, celebrity friends Bebe Rexha, Kim Kardashian and Ava Duvernay have been spotted in her shoes.

The fall collection will be sold online and in stores at Steve Madden as well exclusively at Nordstrom. In addition, there will be one exclusive shoe made for the retailer’s New York store opening next month. Harlow and Steve Madden will release another capsule for spring ’20.

Donald Glover x adidas Originals Collaboration

My favorite Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino has joined forces with adidas Originals to launch Donald Glover Presents, which includes a capsule of footwear and a series of short films. Originally revealing the partnership last September, the one known as Childish Gambino has worked closely with the lifestyle brand to create tone-on-tone iterations of three classics – the Nizza, Continental 80, and the Lacombe. Each of the three models feature subtle imperfections such as frayed edges and wayward threads, all in an effort to exemplify the worn-in aesthetic and the stories behind the miles walked in a used pair of shoes. Additionally, the shoes featured deconstructed features, painted-on logos, and gold eye-stays, while the moth logo appears on the insoles and heels to officially stamp this collaboration.

Along with the shoes, Donald Glover Presents includes a series of short films produced by Royalty that also feature comedian Mo’Nique, a cameo from professional skateboarder Na-Kel Smith, and more.

All three styles will officially release on adidas.com beginning on April 26th.

Teyana Taylor x adidas Originals Harlem GLC

Haute Alert! Teyana Taylor has teamed up with adidas to create her own model called the Harlem GLC. The Harlemite’s first sneaker was created with her passion for basketball in mind. The high top sneaker is reminiscent of the adidas Torsion Attitude, and features bronze scaled leather on the upper with contrasting black side panel branding. Teyana’s affinity for high end fashion shows up in the form of studded motif on the tongue, and an open leather lace system on the rear portion of the shoe. A black sole provides the finishing touch for versatile shoe. The adidas Harlem Good Luck Charm (GLC) will release everywhere on Saturday, February 16 during NBA All-Star weekend. Sam Edelman Fall 2012 Collection

Sam Edelman shoes are a coveted item for many women each season, and this designer sets many of the trends we see in department stores and local boutiques. Sam Edelman fall 2012 shoes include a lineup of printed flats, glitter pumps, and contrasting colors that can be the perfect match for some of your fall ensembles. This is the season to invest in a statement shoe and pick up a pair of shoes decked out in glitter, in a shiny metallic print, or with contrasting colors and prints. Colorblocking is still a hot trend for the fall season and you’ll find a range of shoes in some of fall’s hottest colors including green, pink, red, and blue. Check out some of the haute shoes below and to view the collection click here
his embellished moccasin brings the loafer to the next level with studs, tassels, lacing, metal hardware, and stitching. Available in a series of animal prints as well as some basic colors, the Jalen looks great when paired with cargo pants and a sweater for a comfortable weekend look.

Typically smoking slippers are a bit simpler than the average loafer, but that is far from the case when it comes to the “Alvin.” This stylish yet comfortable slip-on shoe skips the basic color palette in favor of wild materials like the snake skin purple multi and the brahma hair snow leopard. Try pairing these flats with leggings, and a cardigan for an on-trend, feminine look.

The  “Deanna” steps up the traditional loafer by adding a large wedge heel to give the shoe some welcomed lift. Perfect for the office; yet stylish and fun enough for a night out on the town, this British–inspired wedge is the best of both worlds. Try pairing with a pencil skirt and tucked in blouse for a fun yet professional office look.

Is it a loafer?  Is it a boat shoe?  Is it a moccasin?  When it comes to the “Sebastian” the answer to all is simply “yes.” This fun style reworks the classic boat shoe by combining exotic leathers, vibrant colors, espadrille detail, and leather laces. With this combination of detailing, the loafer has never looked so cool. Try pairing this shoe with a striped tee and denim skirt for a fun, nautical look.

How to Wear it:The Black Maxi Skirt

The black maxi skirt is a timeless piece that has a place in every girl’s closet. Both flattering and chic, this wardrobe staple is defined by its versatility. In fact, with so many styling options it can be tough to create the perfect look for your taste. Check out three easy looks Sam Edelman created starring the black maxi skirt some haute shoes from their Spring 2012 collection:

Go boho by wearing the black maxi with the Petty boots and a chiffon blouse! This look is stylishly casual, with the leopard pattern on the Petty offering a fun pop. In the warmer weather, trade the long-sleeved blouse for a sleeveless one, and kick off your boots for a pair of Dante gladiator sandals.

Pair the maxi skirt with a white top, some metallic embellishments and the Frankie flat. This elegant yet understated style will let the metal studs on the Frankie shine and give your outfit a bit of sophisticated sparkle. A colorful pair of shoes is the perfect complement to the simplicity of black and white, so pick any of the Frankie flats’ bright and fun hues to complete the look.

You can’t go wrong with wearing the black maxi with a brightly-colored tee and the Gracie flip-flop. This balanced look is the perfect blend of color and neutral, with the straps on the Gracie balancing out the bright tones of the tee.
